Yilan of the Taiwan East is known for its climate instability and constant floods due to typhoons. This time, the typhoon Parma has dislocated many and turned roads into rivers. The convenient Su Hua Expressway is closed down and many farmers are angry because they have to ship their goods down to Kaoshiung first then up to Taipei, increasing the cost of shipping and decreasing the value/quality of their goods.
County Magistrate Lu Guo-hua is seeing his change for re-election by his doorstep and must take immediate action to help the Yilan civilians lest he angers them. Last time in the 2005 County Magistrate elections, KMT replaced Yilan's and Taipei County's green fields with blue skies and hope to keep the skies blue in December.

it is sad indeed that even a typhoon is no where visible, but damage and casualties are still present. We pray for the safety of those unfortunates.
ReplyDeleteVery good quality post Nelson, we are happy to have your contribution. as we can clearly tell the difference of english language skill comparing your writings to Chris's. Have a good day comrade.
Firstly, I want to point out that the rains continued in Yilan AFTER the typhoon itself left Taiwan.
ReplyDeleteNext, I want to point out the economics fail. Needing to ship their goods to Kaoshiung first would RAISE the price/value. But yes, the use-value or quality would be impacted. There is a significant different between exchange-value and use-value.
And party differences really have no meaning in local government. A good local government is one that does things well, no matter what its party.
