Obamamania

During this time where sales are all going downhill, only one sector is growing, the Barack Obama Products. The Obama craze is already a multimillion-dollar industry and can easily reach to billions.

The beginning purpose of the Obama's products are to be served as memorables throughout the campain trial to the president inauguration. But what we are now seeing is the level of obssession. There are currently 445 Obama retail items on Wholesale.com.

When you wake up, you use the obama towel after bath, then you put on the Obama DC T-shirt. Next, you eat-off with the Obama plate, then slamming back with a Obama beer, opening it with a "Yes We Can Opener". This is how crazy Obama products can get.

Washington retailer Jim Warlick said that the sale had tripled for the last 8 inaugurations. "The only person that I think can match him popularity is the pope".

Guantanamo Bay

As we all know, one of President Obama's policies is to shut down Guantanamo Bay prison. On Wednesday, the Federal Government of Switzerland said "it welcomed the expressed intention of U.S. President Barack Obama to close the prison and would investigate security and legal implications of possibly taking in detainees". But that can also cause lots of problems. Those prisoners are usually considered "cruel"; also, most prisoners are not accepted to go back to their own coutries.

The Vouchers

I am very sorry for giving the wrong information for ****** of Reason. We the TAS people (or under other similarly nationality situation) can not have vouchers. Yes, certain people who have ARC cards can have vouchers, those need to be married to local poeple (外籍配偶才有).
Still, it's happy to hear that the vouchers can probably stimulate our economy.

Our Representative Groups for Obama's Inauguration

A few days after, the US will exchange their president. For the inauguration, actually, we our country is not invited. But our governmet and polictical parties (KMT, DPP) decided to asked the TECO- NY(Taipei Economic and Cultural Ofiice) to get some tickets. Then, We don't only send a group, we sent THREE groups. I think that's a little too weird.

CONSUMER VOUCHERS DISTRIBUTED

Today the long-awaited consumer vouchers are distributed around the island. NTD 3600 is to be distributed to every citizen. The multiplier effect will create more capital. Big government to the rescue!

Calender with the Five Star Flag

Remember two months ago I posted a post about printed PRC's calender in our country, again, that happened AGAIN.

On 外交部東部辦公室's printed calenders, 12/25 and 12/26 are holidays. Why? Because 12/26 is Mao Zedon's birthday. Absud!

More ridiculously, on the calenders of 台東縣衛生局, there are even the Five Star flag.

Disgrace to Mankind

Sigh! Again another gaffe of Prisoner Chen Shui-bian.

Today, we can see on the news that the media recorded a clip of Chen Shui-bian running, stretching, and exercising.

This is:

1)Vandalism to humanity and fitness: Chen runs too slowly, showing a bad example for those who are training cross-country
2)Vandalism to the vision and media: Chen stretches improperly and the wrong muscles.
3)Disgrace to mankind: Mankind should not bother to see Chen again.

Sigh! Chen Shui-bian, does it again!

What is Obama's next step???

Obama was elected president.... yes, that we all know. But what many of us question is what will really be his next step. He had proven himself full of hopeful plans and a strong team that is going to "lead the world through the crisis".

But now thinking back, I live in Taiwan, our current president is Mr. Ma. Just like Obama, more than 50% of our citizen voted for him as president. And everyone in our country is expecting "New President, New Change", and that didn't work out, Taiwan is still in an economy crisis and only getting worse. So same goes for Obama, during his candidate running period, "Yes we can" was the phrase, everyone is giving him too much expectations, and if he really starts his president of the USA, disappointment might start to show.

These are just a bunch of "if" in my opinion, not offending anyone's thought or beliefs.

So, what do you guys think will be Obama's first step (or thing he will do) when he starts stationing himself in the White House?????

Lastly of course, America, Yes We Can!!!

Russia reopens pipes but little flowing to Ukraine (My own reword+opinion)

(Edited by admin to be more aesthetically pleasing.)
From what I've read, it has been known that after a whole week of cut-off gas in Ukraine, Russia had finally reopened the pipes.
But even if the pipes are opened, very little amount are flowing. This is a very critical situation especially when it is currently winter, with tons of snow falling wherever you go. Citizens of Ukraine does not have enough energy to power or heat-up their house. The rumor that Russia bought was Ukraine had been "siphoning" gas into their country without the payment to Russia. But Ukraine tried to make clear it is impossible to transport them into their country without breaking them down into regions or, in my opinion getting "noticed". Ukraine asked for a total of 350 million cubic meters per day, but Russia only gave 1 million cubic meters per hour, which is only 6 percent of Ukraine's goal.

What I think:
Russia's decisions are correct, if Ukraine really is guilty for the natural gas, then Ukraine has to be responsible for their behavior and which means tough luck to it's citizens. But I think it is just as cruel of Russia to watch families of Ukraine die from cold and get sick due to the lack of gas (which heats up the room...etc.). So Russia, for the best of both countries (for now), just reopen available gas lines to Ukraine and at least give them a chance to settle down.

Chen the Magic Embezzler

Sing with Tainan accent with the tune of Puff the Magic Dragon

Chen the Magic embezzler, lives in a prison cell
He has stolen money from public
And now has received punishment
But his nearby friend
Hsieh Chang-Ting
Says he's crazy and he wants to
Go kill Ma ying-jeou

Hoh! Chen the Magic embezzler is from Tainan
Pan-blue says he's a green gong-fei
And they want to kill him
They also said that they wanted to
Destroy Tainan
Because Tainan is such a little place,
It makes no difference at all.

MA THE MAGIC CHINAMAN

This is inspired by the funny racist song "Barack the Magic Negro", and the series of poems/songs previous to this post.

(To be sung in tune of "Puff the Magic Dragon" and with a Beijing accent)

Ma the Magic Chinaman, lives in Taipei.
They say he really is Chinese,
And so "Don’t support him at all!"
His skin is yellow like mine,
And speaks English just like me.
The pan-greens say he’s a gong-fei,
And friendly to our Beijing.

But wait, let me see,
If Ma is really Chinese.
He’s born on Hong Kong island,
And went to some weird Harvard school.

Oh, Ma the Magic Chinaman, lives in Taipei.
He’s never came to our Mainland,
And he’s liked by many Taiwanese,
Oh it really saddens me,
To learn he "only loves Taiwan",
And he would "even die in Taiwan",
And not care about us Chinese.

(I do not endorse racism at all. My song is in no way racist.)

你污的七億呢?

Today when I was listening to 周杰倫's song, I found someone has change Jay's lovely but sad lyrics to a newer and funny version. It insults and tells about the BAD things the former president Chen did.

DEATH OF THE ROC

What is the ROC? What do I mean by its death? The Republic is on its most basic level a democratic republic, built on the Three Principles of the People. Any trampling of the Three Principles, no matter what flag the tramplers might be flying, is to be seen as a threat to the Republic's existence.

The greatest threat to the Republic of China has for long been the Communist Party; as the Civil War ended, the threat was changed to the authoritarianism and corruption of the KMT; recently, the main threat comes to Independence zealots and anti-zealots.

Firstly, the threat from green Independence zealots is evident, with their Independence causing splits in the Ming-zu - discriminating themselves from China and therefore saying even China is not Chinese. This split would also cause a decline in Ming-shen, and also Ming-quan. The Ming-shen would be threatened with Taiwan returning to protectionist isolation. It and Ming-quan would be threatened with any major provocation of the PRC, which would be sending in missiles or setting up a naval blockade if Independence is declared - affecting the lives and obstructing freedom.

Then thinking about it, the death is being put into place slowly from inside. Presidents of the ROC have slowly shifted from "Let's reclaim all of China!" to "Let's be a good example of the Principles to all of China!" to the current "Let's not care about China!". I understand that Ma should focus on setting the internal affairs first, and needs his "I only love Taiwan" stance in face of the green zealots. However, it still is a blatant contradiction to Ming-zu.

Even more fundamental to the death is simple apathy. With the removal of the singing of the Anthem in the morning and mandatory study of the Three Principles in schools, the children are becoming disillusioned about what the Republic is and what it stands for. Yes, they might be singing the anthem and flying the flag everywhere; but the anthem is only an anthem and a flag is only a flag. For example, the zealots flying the flag during the anti-China demonstration in November clearly had no idea what Ming-zu is. By not teaching or even indoctrinating children starting from a young age, children become loyal to only the visible representations of the Republic - and not to its actual purpose.

Then comes more. I realized with my recent re-reading of Fahrenheit 451, that popular culture has grave effects on the people. Contrary to say 1984, the television and Seashell indoctrination is indoctrinating people into escapism and laziness and pure apathy towards anything real. What with the obsession of young Taiwanese nowadays with their "music" and the money and time spent devoted to it, one can easily see the effect.

I can do mostly nothing about this slow murdering of the Republic. It is up to all of us to save the ROC, before it becomes merely an empty shell of flags and anthems and slogans.

ISRAEL VS. HAMAS

It is the fourth day since Israel started air-raiding and performing ground operations in the Gaza Strip, in response to rockets fired from Gaza into Israel. And it is still going on. The official goal of Israel is to eliminate Hamas (Islamic Resistance Movement) completely.

The Gaza rocket and mortar fires (more than 250 of them) killed 4 and injured more than 20 in Israel, which must have looked to Israeli politicians as election fodder. Possible candidates for prime minister for the Israel election in February are the Foreign Minister and Defense Minister - both supporters of the air strikes. According to source below, 81% of Israelis backed the assault.

USA Today article: http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2008-12-29-Israel_N.htm

But what of real effects of the operations? Hamas is not one single person that can be assasinated, and Israel is not going to come close in wiping out Hamas by military means. Even if all the Hamas buildings in Gaza are blown to pieces, support for it would not suddenly disappear. From, the source below, the strikes are most possibly achieving the opposite effect and are rekindling support for Hamas (ah, this reminds me of Bush's preemptive strikes).

Washington Post article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/12/29/ST2008122902751.html

Well, from a humanitarian point of view this attack was terrible, as are all wars. At least 360 Palestinians were killed, and more than 1,690 were injured. The injured are also facing big problems with Israel closing the borders, limiting medical resources getting to needy hospitals. How many more need to be hurt before both Israel and Hamas can settle? Hamas does not want to settle, becasue, well, Israel is attacking it. And Israel does not want to settle because Hamas is attacking it, and well, that Hamas exists.

CHEN DETAINED AGAIN

After the Supreme Court ruled against the original district court's no-bail release of former-President Chen Shui-bien, and two unsuccessful 聲押庭, the Taipei District Court ruled to place Chen in custody once more (with no visit restrictions). The 聲押庭 was more than 12 hours long and spanned through the night, starting from yesterday afternoon. Everyone there must have been very tired. This morning 400, Chen returns to 北所. Because visitors are allowed, he is sent to 孝一舍, with his number 2185 (no significant symbolism for the number this time).

As to some people wanting Chen to pay bail: that would be useless. First, to have him give bail would require the amount of money to be quite large; but with Chen still holding on to his innocent stance, he would not show he has that much money. Then, without paying, he would be detained, and so it would serve no purpose. If somehow, he does pay, then he would be free to run around, inhibiting the investigation process.

Obama and Basketball

On the Yahoo Taiwan news, it says that Obama is very good and basketball since he can dunk at the age 16, which is pretty amazing for a normal nerdy student (at least he is good at the school's homework). It is also said that he is going to build a indoor basketball court in White House.

CHEN LIKELY TO LOSE UNJUST FREEDOM

The Special Investigation Unit's second 抗告 was successful, as 高院 early this morning ruled against the 無保釋放 of former-President Chen. Ruling is now back to district court. There is now most likely going to be a detention court that might will detain Chen once again.

Now, the possibility of escape or tampering with evidence exists for Chen, unlike what the 北院 judge 周占春 said. However, during his time out from his detention cell, did he attempt to escape or tamper with evidence or all those things that were ruled as reasons to detain Chen? Not really. Still though, detention is needed to keep him under control; or of course, the only other option is for 釋放 with a very heavy bail.

Go SIU!

AMERICAN ROC LEGISLATOR?

Carrying over with the excitement over President Ma's Green Card, the green zealots again have targeted a KMT member for dual citizenship - ROC legislator 李慶安. She definitely had US citizenship; whether she had actively performed acts of abandoning the citizenship, further evidence needs to be provided.

What was she doing all the time since March, when the issue was brought up? What was she doing all her years as legislator? She clearly violated the law by not "於就職之日起一年內,完成喪失該國國籍及取得證明文件" (if she even did do so).
