The student protesters have finally figured out they their focus is the amendment of the 集遊法. They want it so that protesters can assemble without registration and area constraints. They also want it so that police cannot disassemble protests and the only charges possible with the law are fiscal.
These requests will cause more trouble than freedom of the people. I agree that the government should not have complete authority to deny rights to protest during registration. However, the government needs to know when and where the protest is taking place to control traffic and possibly protect protesters and civilians. Without area restrictions, protests can wander off into airports or the middle of a street and get run over. Making enforcement fiscal means essentially all the violent protesters from several days ago can just give the police some money and they will be let go. I agree that some amendments might give people more liberty, but all the trouble they will cause undermines the "liberty".
And really, if they want to change a law, they should continue studying at the 政治大學 and become legislators when they grow up. Stop fooling around and getting sick in the cold, students, focus on school!
